Abstract

This study looks into how different students perceive challenges regarding English communication in online and offline learning contexts. This issue was explored qualitatively and sheds light on M.Phil. students from the University of Sargodha who asserted that face-to-face classes bolster confidence and fluency and foster spontaneous interaction because of immediate feedback and nonverbal communication. On the other hand, the flexibility and resource accessibility that online learning provided was overshadowed by the reduced interaction, technical problems, and communication-related anxiety that restricted the oral proficiency development in speech. Evidence suggests that face-to-face environments are better at promoting talking. In contrast, online environments, with adequate support structures, are better at teaching writing and organized participation. In relation to this, the blended teaching and integrated teaching frameworks should be implemented to enhance the online teaching infrastructure and online teaching frameworks for better communicative English.
