Abstract

Mindful, Water management is an important issue not only for Pakistan and India but also for international community as well. Indus water dispute history between Pakistan and India is as old as Indian Partition. Concerned, Indus Water treaty is considered as world’s most successful transboundary water management treaties and its maintenance and implementation is among the world Banks priorities. This study presents a valuable perspective of Indus Water Treaty in the context of its renegotiation by exploring the challenges faced by states party to treaty in managing water resources and its beneficial utilization. Moreover, to identify opportunities based on renegotiation with special focus on International transboundary water laws for both Pakistan and India. Qualitative research method where critical analysis of data will be basic tool for findings and recommendations by using both primary and secondary data sources. To conclude, Treaty is not free from flaws and having issues, notably about climate change and hydroelectric projects, primarily about alignment with international laws, highlights urgency of renegotiation for both Pakistan and India.
