Flood Induced Agricultural Disruption and Food Insecurity: An Exploratory Study of Rural Livelihood
Keywords:
Agricultural Disruption, Climate Change, Food Insecurity, Rural Livelihood, Machinery BreakdownAbstract
This exploratory research investigated the devastating effects of flood in the year 2025 in Gujrat, Pakistan. It emphasized on agriculture production, food insecurity, and rural livelihood. The data was collected through in-depth interviews and tool of data collection was interview guide. The convenience sampling technique was adopted in study and sample size was 11respondents. Moreover, the results showed that the majority of farmers were exposed to massive losses of the agriculture sector due to climate change, which included rural livelihood disruption, foods obstacle and machinery breakdown. Moreover, on the bases of the findings the study recommended that Government should accommodate the flood affected people with financial support including cash support, loan, food aid, provide fertilizers with concession, make sophisticated drainage system and river defenses, along with initiating a scheme to provide modern machinery to all small farmers.
