Abstract

Intellectual property rights (IP)play a vital role in the development of agricultural innovation by incentivizing novel technologies, high-yield seed varieties, and advanced farming methods. Nevertheless, the enforcement and implications of IP rights within the agricultural sector introduce a complex relationship of advantages and obstacles, significantly impacting agricultural productivity and food security. This study examines the impact of IPRs on agriculture and food security, with a particular focus on crop yield, seed quality, and the economic resilience of farmers and agribusinesses. It begins by examining the existing intellectual property rights (IPRs) related to agriculture, including their objectives, provisions, and implementation. Through a review of the literature, the analysis evaluates the effects of IP rights on the accessibility and affordability of agricultural innovations. The results demonstrate that while IP legislations propel innovation and have the potential to amplify productivity, they also pose challenges concerning technology availability and financial burdens on farmers. The study concludes with strategic policy suggestions aimed at striking a balance between the concerns of innovators, farmers, and food security.
