The Influence of Self-Efficacy on Academic Output of Undergraduate Student

Students have to face various kinds of situations and problems during their studies in universities. Among these problems, the more dropout ration and low academic performance are prominent one across the world. To deal with these problems universities need to focus on pupil centered teaching strategies and researches has suggested that self-efficacy play a coping role in in students to avoid the academic dropout and low academic performance. The main goal of this study was to check the influence of academic self-efficacy on the academic output of university students. This research follow quantitative method with descriptive survey research design. All undergraduate students of the University of Mianwali was considered as population. Furthermore, sample of the study was students from departments of faculty of social sciences and faculty of arts and humanities. The convenient sampling technique was utilized in the current study. An general self-efficacy scale was adopted in the current study. Demographic information was also gathered along with the scale. The Cronbach’s alpha value revealed that the research tool was reliable. Data was collected by using both methods i.e., online and physical. Mean, standard deviation, correlation and regression analysis techniques were used for the data analysis. The result revealed an insignificant association among self-efficacy and academic output of students. The influence was also insignificant on the academic output of students. The results of the current study recommend that universities need to focus on the awareness of the students regarding their potential abilities and in this way the academic output of students may raise.
