Impact of Cyber Deviancy on Academic Performance of University Students: A Case Study of District Lahore

The objective of this study is to identify the intricate relationship between being victimized of cyber deviancy and its impact on academic performance among undergraduate university students in Lahore, Pakistan. Through in-depth qualitative analysis of semi-structured interviews conducted with fifteen undergraduate students from various private universities, this study unveil the multifaceted repercussions of cyber deviancy on victims' academic performance. This study highlight a profound negative impact on academic performance characterized by heightened distress, anxiety and a notable decline in academic engagement. Participants reported disruptions to their studies as a result of various forms of cyber deviancy, including stalking, impersonation, harassment, rumor spreading and online taunting. These behaviors not only hindered their capacity to concentrate on academic tasks, but also contributed to a sense of fear and vulnerability in the university setting. This study utilizes a phenomenological approach and qualitative methodology to conduct semi-structured interviews with participants. Thematic analysis is employed to investigate the topic thoroughly. Furthermore, given the serious implications for students' well-being and academic success, our findings highlight the critical need for intervention techniques to combat cyber deviancy in university settings. Understanding the intricate factors at play and implementing focused interventions can help organizations build a safer and more conducive learning environment for every student.
